The Thesis is a series of films and bespoke tailored suits made with Harris Tweed.
I use my films, filmed on a Super 8, as a method of observation by filming my subjects, participating in their daily rituals, specifically focused on where people congregate. I often sit alone in bars, observing, watching people go by. I am alone, as is everyone surrounding me. Yet together we are part of a community connected by action, a ritual, an object.
I look at fabric, movement, stills and silhouette. I look at who they meet, how they meet. I look at how the cut of the cloth and the cut the silhouette performs these rituals. These films reflect the way I look and contribute to my approach to tailoring. For me tailoring is a time based practice and with my films I hope to reflect this. The suits and the films together are telling a story, a history, a history which is not yet written.

As an artist I work primarily with film and photography, using analogue cameras. My designs are influenced by my methods of working. Whether it is using the structure and composition of a photograph or the image itself I consider all aspects within my practice. With my camera I observe everyday life and rituals, both of myself and others. I am attracted to that which to most may seem mundane. I interpret a story. With these stories I want the viewer to interpret their own stories through what they see and feel with my films.
