Here and Now Fashion Festival

An Ultra Uranian Utopia is a space on the distant horizon. It promises the existence of a Queer future to the Nth degree. A future of melting bodies, embodying sex and desire, we reject the status quo of power, yearning and longing for what is not yet here. In my thesis, I am drawn to finding the subtle ways through which people manifest their desires. I often find myself going down PornHub rabbit holes, visiting cam websites, and cruising through self-published queer zines and books, looking for the horizon of new desires. Another part of my research is conducted through conversational interviews about anecdotal sexual experiences of my friends and myself. It is important for me to analyze these desires in both the virtual world and reality. Building from my research, I design my clothes with the same kind of primordial desire that many queer people use to not only form a deeper connection with one another, but also transcend the here and now into the there and future.

Junlin He is a porn-historian working in the medium of fashion. Their work is informed by unconventional research based on their own collection of queer ephemera. These ephemera span from curated Pornhub playlists to vintage blue books. Such research fuels their creative process. Their work ultimately probes at the construct of sex and gender, and how it influences society as a whole.
