Education Alliance Virtual Gallery

Multi-generational programs and services that enhance their well-being and socioeconomic opportunities

Project Description
Educational Alliance was founded in 1889 to serve Jewish immigrants residing in Lower Manhattan. Today, the EA “brings together and partners with diverse communities in Lower Manhattan, offering individuals and families high-quality, multi-generational programs and services that enhance their well-being and socioeconomic opportunities.” The designers in this group focused on EA’s creative programming, spanning needlepoint, drama club, and ceramics. After spending time with the members in classes and learning their perspective, the group was struck by the sheer volume of creative work that is produced. This was countered by a minimal space to display items and one-off requests from family members to see individual art pieces. The Educational Alliance Virtual Gallery prototype was a carefully curated online library displaying members’ art in order to tell the stories of the people behind them.
