The First year MS SDM Studio at the Parsons Strategic Design and Management graduate program worked with Northwell Health (NWH). The focus of the project was transitions of care for the person who manages the healthcare of household members, known as the ‘Chief Medical Officers’ (CMO) of the home. The team used the design-thinking process to better understand family care needs at different, especially disruptive stages of or events in life (birth, disease, transitions from child to adulthood, and aging) and to identify ways to empower CMOs as caregivers. Two complementary solutions were developed. The first concept was the design of a more humanized, user-centered digital experience to assist CMO to manage caregiving at distinct caregiving pain points. The second concept was the creation of a new “navigator” role to help family caregivers navigate the hospital system.
