The Nightingale and the Rose: XR is an immersive narrative experience that brings scenes from Oscar Wilde’s fairy tale into the user’s real-world environment through Extended Reality (XR), with a focus on Augmented Reality (AR) technologies. Using Apple Vision Pro’s spatial computing and gesture-based interaction, the project invites users to engage directly with characters and environments—blending storytelling with embodied interaction. Rather than focusing on traditional reading, the experience emphasizes presence, emotion, and participation. It explores how immersive media can create deeper narrative engagement through multi-sensory design and contextual interactivity. As an experimental project at the intersection of art, technology, and storytelling, it proposes new ways to experience and interpret narrative in digital spaces. As scenes and characters from the story are brought to the real world, hrough gesture interactions, users can engage in simple interactions with the characters or make small adjustments to the storyline. I envision this project as a new form of immersive narrative.
In the ideal state of project completion, the full story content should be seamlessly presented without the need for external instruction manuals. Instead, all necessary guidance would be integrated into the XR experience itself. As a result, users wouldn’t need any prior preparation—they could begin the experience as effortlessly as opening a book. However, only an experimental portion of the story will be presented at the EOY Show. Therefore, I will also provide an instructional poster as below:
