Microaggression Microgames is a Wariolike (game consisting of mini-games) that is comprised of games that are themed around varying forms of constant anti-blackness present in America.
Players will experience scenarios purposely designed to be unfun and painful, even the visuals are deliberately crude and simple as the game itself is not meant to be traditionally enjoyed, but striking enough through gameplay to trigger uncomfortable responses.
Players should innately feel fear, anger, distress, disgust, or awkwardness and keep those feelings with them, and ask themselves deeper questions about where those feelings stem in relation to what they are playing.
The concept of microaggressions coalesce very well with microgames, because just like microaggressions, microgames are experienced for but only a brief moment, yet these small things stay with us and become more clear the more they are repeated.
Part of the purpose of this game is to be a window into more covert and real examples of white supremacy/anti-blackness, so that the lived experiences of black and brown people can be publicized in hopes of spreading awareness and sparking conversation and self reflection. Do you commit any microaggressions?
The game is inspired by my goal to completely dismantle, destroy, and abandon both the system, and the very idea of White Supremacy. This work is one piece in what I plan on making into a series of works surrounding similar ideas.
