The conversation will take place on Tuesday, August 4 at 8:00 pm.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>PANEL DISCUSSION\/<strong>TUESDAY AUGUST 4<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p class=\"\">If housing is a right, what\u2019s the path to a more equitable city that houses all? How do diversity and mixed housing options coexist within a neighborhood? Join the Calgary Public Library in partnership with d.talks, for a discussion about housing, inclusion, and the challenges to making the room so that everyone has a stable roof. Please RSVP <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dtalks.org\/upcomingevents\/makingroom\">here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"\">PUSH is a documentary on housing and affordability. Directed by Frederik Gertten, the documentary includes interviews with housing advocate Leilani Farha, sociologist Saskia Sassen, economist Joseph Stiglitz, and journalist Roberto Saviano. Filming Leilani Farha over two years, the director notes that \u201cwords like gentrification are not sharp enough at describing the issue.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4><strong>PARTICIPANTS<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Romy Garrido<\/strong> (moderator) works in communications and political management, having worked at The City of Calgary and now for the non-profit housing sector in Parkdale, Toronto. She frequently comments on issues of equity and migration, and applies theory to practice through grassroots community organizing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Bruce Irvine<\/strong> is the Manager of Affordable Housing for the City of Calgary responsible for implementing on the City\u2019s Affordable Housing Strategy, policy initiatives to scale up the nonprofit housing sector and capital construction of the ten year capital plan to build over 1,000 new homes.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Martina Jileckova<\/strong> is the CEO at Horizon Housing and Co-chair of the Community Housing Affordability Collective (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.chacollective.com\/\">CHAC<\/a>). She is a member of the Calgary Local Immigration Partnership Council and the Aboriginal Standing Committee on Housing and Homelessness.\u00a0She serves on Boards for the Community Housing Transformation Centre and Alberta Network of Public Housing Agencies.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Bernadette Majdell,<\/strong> since 2016, has been the CEO of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.homespace.org\/\">HomeSpace Society<\/a>, a non-profit real estate developer, rental housing owner and property manager. She has been active in the homeless sector, serving as a board member at the Calgary Homeless Foundation and held a prominent role in the development of Calgary\u2019s Ten Year Plan to End Homelessness.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Gabriela Rend\u00f3n<\/strong> is the Founder and Director of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/parsons.edu\/housingjusticelab\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Housing Justice Lab<\/a>\u00a0a platform for dialogue, research and strategic design for equitable neighborhood development based\u00a0at The New School in New York City.\u00a0She is a co-founder both of Cohabitation Strategies, a non-profit organization for socio-spatial research, design and development; and of Urban Front, a transnational consultancy focused on helping progressive public and social sectors achieve their goals as they address critical urban problems.<\/p>\n<p class=\"\"><strong>Lee Stevens<\/strong> works at <a href=\"http:\/\/vibrantcalgary.com\/\">Vibrant Communities Calgary<\/a> as a Policy and Research Specialist.
