Housing activist Frank Morales is an advocate of \u201cthe direct action approach,\u201d which is \u201csecuring a place to live by seizing, renovating and defending it.\u201d He began squatting in the South Bronx during the urban decay of the late \u201970s\u00a0when hundreds of buildings were left to ruin. Morales later moved to the Lower East Side, forming a loose community with fellow squatters as they worked to rebuild abandoned properties. Over the last two decades, he has supported homeless New Yorkers to build community and take action to win housing rights as a former housing organizer with\u00a0Picture the Homeless<\/a>\u00a0and assisting various anti-eviction and housing groups, including the\u00a0Brooklyn Eviction Defense<\/a>. In this conversation, he will share his experiences and work building connections between community organizing, resistance, and solidarity with the poor.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This event is free and open to students, faculty, staff, and the general public.
