Alum Marcos Echeverría Ortiz received the Mason Multimedia Award for Outstanding Project in Oral History, awarded by the Oral History Association.nnThis prize recognized Ortiz’s thesis project, Where We Were Safe, the Oral History of the Lost Spaces of Salsa Music in New York City.nnSince graduating in 2021, Ortiz has continued developing his transmedia project, which started as his thesis. Last year, an interactive installation of the project toured the US and Latin America. He launched the book’s second edition based on this investigation at the Printed Matters Art Book Fair in LA and developed “Place is Power,” a series of oral mapping workshops. The award comes as a recognition of the recent development of the project.nn
