The Architectural League Prize receives generous support from Elise Jaffe + Jeffrey Brown, Hunter Douglas Architectural, and Tischler und Sohn. The League Prize is also supported by the Next Generation Fund, an alumni fund of The Architectural League’s Emerging Voices and Architectural League Prize programs, and the J. Clawson Mills Fund of The Architectural League. Architectural League programs are supported, in part, by public funds from the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council and the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and the New York State Legislature. The League thanks the Sheila C. Johnson Design Center, Parsons School of Design / The New School, for co-sponsoring and hosting the League Prize exhibition and lectures and the School of Constructed Environments at Parsons School of Design / The New School for their additional support.
The Architectural League Prize is one of North America’s most prestigious awards for young architects and designers. The Prize, established in 1981, recognizes exemplary and provocative work by young practitioners and provides a public forum for the exchange of their ideas. Each year The Architectural League and the Young Architects + Designers Committee organize a portfolio competition. Six winners are then invited to present their work in a variety of public fora, including lectures, an exhibition, and on the League’s website.
The 2018 theme, Objective, asked entrants to consider objectivity today as simultaneously elevated and undermined, in an era in which technology, science, and post-truths coexist. How do we define or understand architecture in a post-truth world? This year’s winners are:
Anya Sirota of Akoaki, Detroit, MI
Bryony Roberts of Bryony Roberts Studio, New York City, NY
Gabriel Cuéllar and Athar Mufreh of Cadaster, Brooklyn, NY
Coryn Kempster of Julia Jamrozik and Coryn Kempster, Buffalo, NY
Alison Von Glinow and Lap Chi Kwong of Kwong Von Glinow, Chicago, IL
Dan Spiegel of SAW // Spiegel Aihara Workshop, San Francisco, CA
The exhibition will be open Monday – Saturday, from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and late Thursday evenings until 8:00 p.m. The exhibition will also be open on the evenings of the lectures. Admission is free.
