Explorations and Outcomes II

March 14, 2013 - March 29, 2013

Arnold and Sheila Aronson Galleries

Opening Reception: Thursday, March 14, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

An exhibition of First Year work from Foundation, Photography, Design + Technology, and Design + Management

The first year of an art and design education is an introduction to the creative process. The destination of the nascent artist and designers on view in this exhibition will vary from photography to Illustration, from fine art to entrepreneurship. But each enters into a conversation between form and meaning, a dialogue between making and thinking.

Outcomes are markers on the educational path that these creative thinkers have just begun to travel — they signal the sensitivity, skills, and critical thinking that deepen year to year. Learning outcomes may tell us about the values and priorities of an institution, and in this first important year can frame the experiences that guide the transition to a university education.

This exhibition cannot capture all the experiences or outcomes of the first year, but it can share some tools that our students are acquiring (from methods of representation, to a material sensitivity, to an introduction to the complexity of systems) that will enable them to tackle tough problems in the years ahead.
