Opening Reception: Wednesday, April 11, 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

The first year of an art and design education is an introduction to the creative process. The destination of the nascent artists and designers on view in this exhibition will vary; from photography, to Illustration, from fine art to entrepreneurship; but each enters into a conversation between form and meaning, and engages in a dialogue between making and thinking.

Outcomes are markers on the educational path that these creative thinkers have just begun to travel; they signal the sensitivity, skills and critical thinking that deepen year by year. Learning outcomes can tell us about the values and priorities of an institution, and in this first important year, can frame the experiences that guide the transition to a university education.

This exhibition cannot capture all the experiences or outcomes of the first year, but it can share some tools that our students are acquiring (from methods of representation, to a material sensitivity, to an
introduction to the complexity of systems) that will enable them to tackle tough problems in the years that lie ahead.
