The exhibition highlights the artistic contributions of lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer practitioners, as well as artists exploring issues relevant to LGBTQ communities, to current cultural discourse around identity and artistic practice. Culled from The New School Art Collection, roughly six dozen works will hang in the gallery and throughout the university. Texts, written by members of the New School community and invited guests, will be gathered on a blog and offer readings of these works that foreground their relevance to the evolution of a LGBTQ visibility and implications for developing queer artistic practices.

Curated by Tony Whitfield, Associate Professor of Art and Design Practice at Parsons, Grounding Future Queer will include paintings, prints and sculptural works by artists from the last century including Pavel Tchelitchew, Joan Snyder, Shinique Smith, Aziz & Cucher, Fred Wilson, General Idea, Larry Rivers, Catherine Opie, Glenn Ligon, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Brian Tolle, Andrea Geyer, Nikki S. Lee, David Wojnarowicz, Rudolf Schwarzkogler, Berenice Abbott, and John Cage.
