Anna-Maria and Stephen Kellen Gallery
The exhibition,“Ours: Democracy in the Age of Branding,” is a multi-disciplinary investigation of democracy as a consumer brand. Timed to coincide with the final stages of the American presidential elections, the exhibition seeks to reflect on the electoral process in this country. The event also inaugurates the Anna-Maria and Stephen Kellen Gallery at the Sheila C. Johnson Design Center at Parsons School of Design. It is co-produced by the Vera List Center for Art and Politics at The New School and Parsons School of Design. An informal reception will celebrate participants in the exhibition.
Among the participants in the exhibition are Yael Bartana, Erick Beltran, Alexis Baghat, Sam Durant, Kota Ezawa, Andrea Geyer, Sharon Hayes, Ashley Hunt, Emma Kay, Asaf Koriat, Runo Lagomarsino, Miguel Luciano, Aleksandra Mir, Ariel Orozco, Trevor Paglen, Hank Willis Thomas, Johan Tiren, Brian Tolle, Judi Werthein, and the YES Men. Several of these artists have contributed works and installations conceived specifically for the exhibition.
British artist Liam Gillick has created a site-specific platform for loosely defined democratic processes, acting as a stage for performances, classes, charrettes, as well as a student lounge.
