Soft Parade, organized by collection curators Silvia Rocciolo and Eric Stark, brings together for the first time seminal works from the New School Art Collection that reflect the university’s historic commitment to supporting socially engaged art making, from David Hammons’ African American Flag and Nancy Spero’s Female Bomb to Joseph Beuys’ La Rivoluzione Siamo Noi. Among the other influential artists featured in the exhibition are Bernd and Hilla Becher, Jim Dine, Buckminster Fuller, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Hans Haacke, Robert Indiana, Glenn Ligon, Mariko Mori, Vik Muniz, Martha Rosler (who is serving as an Artist-in-Residence at The New School this spring); Lorna Simpson, Kara Walker and Andy Warhol. The exhibition also features recent acquisitions to the collection, including works by Barnaby Furnas and Marjetica Potrc. A unique opportunity to view the quality and scope of the collection, this exhibition pays homage to the collectors who have generously donated to The New School and reminds us of The New School’s dynamic history.
