December 16, 2019 - January 12, 2020
Anna-Maria and Stephen Kellen Gallery
A selection of student works from the Textiles MFA Program at Parsons will be displayed in our 5th Avenue- and 13th Street-facing windows while the buildings and galleries are closed to the public over the winter break and in preparation for the spring 2020 roster of exhibition.
The program was launched in the fall of 2018 to pioneer an innovative approach to textiles creation and education. An intensive, interdisciplinary curriculum and hands-on coursework form the core of this graduate program which sits at the intersection of craft and technology. With an emphasis on matters of sustainability, social justice, well being and honesty in making, the rigorous curriculum spans foundational textiles knowledge, conceptual thinking, creative and exploratory studio time, and critical, scholarly approaches to textiles. Preeti Gopinath, Founding Program Director, and an incredible team of faculty mentor students as they explore their potential to unite traditional hand-crafted textiles with modern hi-tech and biotech production in purposeful and meaningful ways.
