A exhibition of works created by award-winning photographer Phil Borges in partnership with CARE that depict inspirational stories of ordinary women who are catalyzing change in communities spanning the world. As part of CARE’s effort to raise awareness about women’s empowerment in the fight against poverty, CARE approached Borges about documenting its work. Borges first visited CARE projects in Ethiopia in November 2004. Over the next eight months, he photographed and interviewed women in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Ecuador, Guatemala, Togo and Ghana. CARE is now partnering with Parsons School of Design on a project supported by Sheila Johnson that will enable women in Guatemala to develop products based on traditional handicrafts but geared for the U.S. market.
