In Partnership with Pride Live, students in the Live Project\/Temp Environments had the objective of designing an exhibit for the Parsons School of Design galleries imitating what a student-led exhibit at the Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center (SNMVC) would entail.<\/span><\/p>\n

“RE:GENERATIONS,” the inaugural exhibit, focused on manifold interpretations of the word Regeneration and sought to create a space to reflect on what it might mean to each person passing through. Students encouraged guests to explore the legacy of the Stonewall Inn as a place of rest and resistance so they might burst back into the world with their rebellious spark anew. Components of the exhibit included a hallway, projection wall, and gallery space.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the hallway, students constructed a non-linear, wheat-pasted timeline wall situating their own personal queer histories with historical markers of the queer movement and intersecting struggles against injustice.<\/span><\/p>\n

The video wall showcased footage from Christopher Street interpreted in ways that could spark conversation about the connection between physical space and enduring memory.<\/span><\/p>\n

The gallery acted as a rest stop that used bamboo and screen-printed fabric structures to display art from the class, collect books on a community bookshelf, and host queer performance events.<\/span><\/p>\n

The gallery opening reception featured remarks from Pride Live president Ann Gothard, Dean of Parsons Yvonne Watson, students and faculty from the class, and Stonewall Pioneer Mark Segal followed by a reception attended by many friends and sponsors of Pride Live.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
