These young artists received top honors in the prestigious Scholastic Art &amp; Writing Awards, which were adjudicated this year by dozens of notable artists and writers including\u00a0Mahogany Browne, Willie Cole, Leela Corman, Edwidge Danticat, Philip Lorca di Corcia, Thom Duffy, Ann Messner, Dread Scott, Sergio Troncoso,\u00a0Hrag Vartanian, and John Corey Whaley.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibition spans two locations in New York City \u2014 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newschool.edu\/parsons\/sheila-c-johnson-design-center\/\">Sheila C. Johnson Design Center at Parsons School of Design at The New School<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pratt.edu\/events\/exhibitions\/pratt-manhattan-gallery\/\">Pratt Institute\u2019s Pratt Manhattan Gallery<\/a> \u2014 and showcases more than 1,000 of the freshest and most engaging visual and literary works from students nationwide in grades 7\u201312. Art.Write.Now.2017 provides valuable insights into what issues are on the minds of teenagers through painting, poetry, sculpture, photography, journalism, film, animation, editorial cartoons, and more.<\/p>\n<p>The creative teens featured in this exhibition follow in the footsteps of past Scholastic Awards recipients Andy Warhol, John Baldessari, Sylvia Plath, Truman Capote, Richard Avedon, Robert Redford, Joyce Carol Oates, Ken Burns, Kay WalkingStick, Paul Chan, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.artandwriting.org\/who-we-are\/timeline\/\">many other notable artists and writers<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Special Thanks<\/p>\n<p>The Art.Write.Now.2017 National Exhibition and accompanying programs are co-sponsored by the Sheila C. Johnson Design Center at Parsons School of Design at The New School and Pratt Institute\u2019s Pratt Manhattan Gallery. The exhibition is supported, in part, by the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, and Blick Art Materials &amp; Utrecht Art Supplies.
