The Architectural League Prize is one of North America\u2019s most prestigious awards for young architects and designers. The Prize, established in 1981, recognizes exemplary and provocative work by young practitioners and provides a public forum for the exchange of their ideas. Each year The Architectural League and the Young Architects + Designers Committee organize a portfolio competition. Six winners are then invited to present their work in a variety of public fora, including lectures, an exhibition, and on the League\u2019s website.<\/p>\n
The idea that an architectural work might be just\u2014whether formally, materially, contextually, culturally, or otherwise\u2014invokes the diverse and interdependent concerns that shape contemporary practice. In its myriad references,\u00a0Just<\/em>\u00a0explores the implicit tensions between architecture\u2019s affinity for the\u00a0just so<\/em>\u00a0in materials, tectonics, and organization, and a call to act\u00a0justly<\/em>.<\/p>\n Just<\/em>\u00a0explores architectural action with the understanding that a multiplicity of coexisting and contradictory attitudes may be constructive, liberating, and justified. This year\u2019s Architectural League Prize competition asks entrants to consider the\u00a0just<\/em>\u00a0in how they approach the practice of architecture, whether through experimentation in research and design advocacy or by advancing speculative and applied techniques within the discipline.<\/p>\n This year\u2019s winners are:<\/p>\n Jennifer Bonner<\/b>, MALL, Atlanta, GA \/ Boston, MA The exhibition will be open daily 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and late Thursday evenings until 8:00 p.m. The exhibition will also be open on the evenings of the lectures.
