Prompt: For this project, we were tasked with creating a wearable piece that interacts with the body in some way shape or form.
I created a wearable skirt out of wood, wire, and string. It is inspired by ergonomics and the way the human body naturally works as well as the molded wood furniture designed by Ray and Charles Eames. I focussed on the spine and cut several wooden spine-inspired pieces with a jigsaw and sanded and shaped them all. I linked them together with bolts and wire. The wood has a similar tensile strength to real bone making it a good choice for this project. The wooden pieces move side to side but not front to back like a real human spine.
