For this project we were placed in a small group of three and given the task to explore the idea of social and ecological spaces by creating a light fixture where its installation could help social interactions and one\u2019s mood. Individually we were to make a modular light fixture, with the twist that each individual light could then interconnect together with our group member\u2019s lights to make one cohesive light fixture. So – three smaller lights combined to make one larger light. I researched biomimicry and constructed habitats that occur in nature, and how these structures and materials are used by animals and insects. We decided to design a light fixture for college dorm rooms, a design for a light that helps college students feel more at peace. We wanted our light fixture to radiate a sense of calm and to help the dorm room feel like a place where you want to gather a small group of friends to interact socially.<\/p>\n
I chose colors for my light that would help calm ones mood and worked that into my design. Each individual light was modular in design, able to be taken apart with wooden dowels, making each unit able to be used separately or cohesively as one unit.<\/p>\n
