In this piece, my main intention was to celebrate, the leading women in the Democratic Socialist movement in the US. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley, and Rashida Tlaib are among those women. These women have made it their mission to bring forth the voices of people from marginalized communities. They do not only represent cultural diversity, but also different world views and the voices of the youth in the nation. Being a Bengali, Muslim, and American, the values they represent and support matter to me.Rightwing politicians, news anchors, and party supporters associate Democratic Socialism with Communism, Dictatorship, ideas like lack of free speech, censorship of media. Red is the color most strongly associated with communism because it has historically been used as a symbol of revolution and symbolizes the blood of the people who fought in the struggles against capitalism. In order to change people\u2019s perception of Democratic Socialism being in likeness to Communism, I want the color of the DS movement to be green. For me, the DS movement is meant to bring change, hope, equality. Green being is the color that symbolizes nature, growth, renewal, I thought it was very \u2002tting for the movement. Each of the panels has a quote by the Congresswoman represented in them.<\/p>\n
