Three objects that I believed resonated with me was the “Bronze Chariot inlaid with ivory” from the 6th century B.C., the “Cubiculum (bedroom) from the Villa of P. Fannius Synistor at Boscoreale” from 40-50 B.C., and the “Terracotta column-krater Bowl”. I took these works, and blended them into life in New York City, and how I depict my own life living in Brooklyn. For example, I took the Chariot object that I chose, and placed it within the shadow of the NYC subway, and thought of the relationships between transportation today versus in the 6th century. I think the point of my piece was to show a juxtaposition, and how much we differentiate from our past. However, many of the inventions created in that past resonate and impact our present deeply, because without the artists of the past and their insightful ideas, we might still be stuck in prehistoric times today. Living in Brooklyn, NY, it’s important to study my surroundings as well as the people around me. I wanted to create a piece to show the audience what its like to look at New York City through an artist’s eyes, and how much color and form we see in every day objects. This is why the objects of the past resonate with me, because looking at the objects of our everyday lives versus the past is important to understanding our environment and where we stand in this world.<\/p>\n
