{"id":15360,"date":"2022-11-09T15:43:00","date_gmt":"2022-11-09T20:43:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/parsons.edu\/undergrad\/?post_type=student-work&#038;p=15360"},"modified":"2022-11-09T15:43:00","modified_gmt":"2022-11-09T20:43:00","slug":"rae-johnsen-2","status":"publish","type":"student-work","link":"https:\/\/parsons.edu\/undergrad\/student-work\/rae-johnsen-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Rae Johnsen"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>For my paper, I chose the Frick Collection&#8217;s two allegorical oil paintings by Paolo Veronese, &#8220;The Choice between Virtue and Vice&#8221; and &#8220;Wisdom and Strength&#8221;. They stood out to me not only for their striking beauty\u2013 rich color, dimensional figures, and fantastic detail\u2013 but for their wealth of symbolism. My background research was based primarily on the knowledge of Frick curator Xavier Salomon, who explained many of the more ambiguous symbols that Veronese uses in the works. Through these two spectacular paintings, Veronese expresses moral ideals that their original owners presumably lived by in their own lives.
