My pavilion, the MSF, is designed specifically for the younger and elderly, as more than 30 million people in the U.S. have hearing loss due to exposure to loud noise. In New York City, nearly one in six adults report ringing in their ears or hearing loss. This pavilion will help disconnect the park from the city as it provides the comfort of less noise pollution and a calming or relaxing aspect to the busy city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The MSF, or Madison Square Foundation, will be situated in the lower section of the park, around the fountain. As visitors walk through the pavilion and run their hands along the gently curved walls, they will experience the sensation of being in an enclosed yet partially open, secure space. These walls serve as a form of noise insulation, muting the sounds of cars, construction, etc. The sounds of footsteps and the splashing water from the fountain are enhanced, allowing these individuals to reconnect with nature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
