Growing up in a costal city, ocean has been a source of belonging and comfort for me. I wanted to create this wavy and smooth shape that symbolizes water and the nostalgic feeling that the shape brings me.

The resulting shape is a harmonious blend of undulating waves reminiscent of water ripples and the organic contours akin to a human or child’s form. My intention is to foster a tangible connection between viewers and the symbiotic relationship that exists between humanity and nature. By imbuing the shape with a familiar essence associated with children, I aspire to cultivate a similar sense of empathy and care towards the environment, particularly our oceans and waters.

Through this artistic endeavor, I aspire to kindle awareness surrounding the imperative need for environmental protection.

After de-moulding the plaster successfully I accidentally broke it. I decided to keep the parts because I feel like the cracks added a sense of fragileness and vulnerability to the piece that matches the theme of my work.

I sanded the surface multiple times aiming for a smooth texture. I did not paint the platter, I wanted to keep the natural quality of this sculpture. The decision to keep the broken parts rather than attempting to recreate the piece demonstrates a thoughtful and deliberate choice to embrace imperfections and allow them to contribute to the overall message.

The unintentional breaking of the plaster piece can be seen as a serendipitous occurrence, adding an extra layer of symbolism to this piece.
