I was determined to create a video that mimicked the feeling of a nightmare. Without a continuous, chronological narrative and random changes of scenery and action. The video is a mix of still images and clips, creating variety in the flow for abruptness. I wanted the feeling created to be ominous and eery, a sense of impeding doom without reason or end point. The symbolism of holiness around the apple connects to the nonsensical nature of the video, since biblically the apple is used a metaphor for temptation and the fall of man. Deliberate bites out of an apple which frames itself as ‘holy’ shows a lack of resistance of wanting to wake up from this reality, instead accepting it. Taking the metaphor further I wanted to film it in a garden-like setting, shooting in different locations within it. Both the sound and the video clips include many layered tracks, several with the ‘Difference’ or ‘Darken’ blend mode.
