Whilst creating this hybrid piece, I had the simple intention of combining two or\u00a0more body parts to create a hybrid sculpture. Through the experimenting\u00a0process and drawing out ideas, I found myself covering the eyes of a face with\u00a0hands\/fingers. The sketches spoke to me in a way where I felt it was somewhat\u00a0relatable, so I took the piece of and created it as a sculpture. To give it a base, I\u00a0added more plaster in a box and when smoothing it out, I decided to attack\u00a0the plaster with fingers, spreading the material out in waves.<\/p>\n
The narrative of the piece came when I started painting the sculpture and decided that the waves had to appear as real waves and that\u00a0the face and hands should also look real, like my own face and hands. The piece gave me an overwhelming\u00a0feeling, this visual of being pulled down into water, drowning, and holding\u00a0yourself back. The piece spoke to the struggles that students face everyday of workload, peer pressure, and self depreciation. It is up to the\u00a0viewer to see the piece and relate to it in a way where they can then reflect on\u00a0their own struggles, and possibly open their eyes to a struggle they’ve always\u00a0had but never properly noticed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":8624,"template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"_links_to":"","_links_to_target":""},"categories":[28],"tags":[84],"class_list":["post-8622","student-work","type-student-work","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-space-materiality","tag-body"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"\n
