I decided to focus on the area around Maria Hernandez Park in Bushwick for my\u00a0intervention. With the absence of any other public space and the sense of\u00a0unsafety in the neighborhood created through the neglect of child-friendly public\u00a0spaces, I started questioning the spaces we allow children to freely exist in\u00a0urban environments. Playgrounds are one of the only spaces dedicated to\u00a0children to explore create and fulfill curiosity in the intimidating world of adults.<\/p>\n
I\u00a0wanted to create a mentally and physically safe space for children through\u00a0encouraging a sense of belonging, vulnerability, connection and exploration in a\u00a0playground that imitates these ideas in all aspects of its design. In my\u00a0playground, this idea is translated into the knitted inner structure that holds\u00a0hanging cocoons in a web-like form, creating a dynamic environment that moves\u00a0with each child\u2019s impact. This place will not only serve as a psychological space\u00a0but will encourage school, after-school programs or other organizations to use\u00a0this space for activities and classes for young children to have access to nature\u00a0and its wisdom in an urban environment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":8748,"template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"_links_to":"","_links_to_target":""},"categories":[24],"tags":[75],"class_list":["post-8745","student-work","type-student-work","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-integrative-studio-seminar-2","tag-constructed-environments"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"\n
