The purpose of my assignment was to explore the relationship between products\u00a0and byproducts and the interconnectedness of products and systems.\u00a0Furthermore to go beyond monetary value with a product, services or systems;\u00a0also it emphasizes the importance of the environment, economic and social\u00a0value. I was assigned urban gardeners.<\/p>\n

Conveniently, my family are actual\u00a0urban gardeners, regarding the fact that we own a hydroponics farm in North\u00a0Carolina. I decided to explore this form of urban gardening in New York City.\u00a0After doing extensive research i found that hydroponics had started its\u00a0foundation in the city.<\/p>\n

Further, I contemplated the issues in hydroponics. I actively\u00a0searched for a problem to solve and a product that could be produced to fix its\u00a0issues. I soon realized that this type of gardening could actually be a solution in\u00a0its own right after receiving an article about food safety from my brother. I was\u00a0guided to the global epidemic of food deserts.<\/p>\n

I established my problem and\u00a0system to solve it I honed in on a certain group. After looking at community\u00a0farms I decided to focus on schools. I began to answer my assignments\u00a0foundational questions; from these questions I formed an additional service to\u00a0my project by creating hydroponics classes in schools. This idea had been underdeveloped until I found schools that have already implemented this into\u00a0their science classes.<\/p>\n

My final steps were to create my own model with a\u00a0budget that would work in schools and easily accessible materials. I created a\u00a0finalized project with lots of guidelines for myself that were ideal for a school in a\u00a0food desert. I found that hydroponics can solve food deserts but also can give\u00a0schools, colleges and communities year-round healthy foods, along with new\u00a0education and little funds.<\/p>\n
