My family is an incredibly important part of my culture and has a significant\u00a0impact on my life. The piece that I have made is a wire representation of a photo\u00a0taken of my family at the beach. Growing up, each summer we would drive down\u00a0to the Jersey shore and visit my grandparents. It\u2019s one of my favorite childhood\u00a0memories.<\/p>\n
After choosing the image, I did some basic line drawings over-top to help\u00a0analyze which parts of the photo I felt were important. These lines were
\ncontinuous since the medium I was working with was wire and it is easier to use\u00a0in a single strand. I decided that I would break the image up into parts and layer\u00a0them, so that from head on the picture is coherent, but from the other angles, it\u00a0reads very differently. I felt like this would add a new level of intrigue to the\u00a0piece. Once I chose the lines I wanted to work with I made new line drawings of\u00a0each figure. Then using tracing paper, I layered them on top of each other to\u00a0make sure that they would fit together.<\/p>\n
For each wire piece made I used 24 gauge steel galvanized wire as the body\u00a0and 16 gauge as the standing support. To bend the figures, I used my hands and\u00a0pliers. The base\/stand is made out of two pieces of MDF. One that holds a\u00a0vertical bar with a clamp mounted to it. And one that the clamp attaches to that\u00a0contains the wire pieces. The clamp mechanism is designed to make the height\u00a0of the piece adjustable. When the viewer looks at the piece from eye level the\u00a0figures lineup and the picture is revealed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":9408,"template":"","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"_links_to":"","_links_to_target":""},"categories":[28],"tags":[80],"class_list":["post-9405","student-work","type-student-work","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-space-materiality","tag-culture"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"\n
