Throughout Project no. 3: Image Therapy Series, we have explored the possibilities of wet color media and different brush techniques. Getting used to conduct wet media, we have got an assignment to create a color strategy or a compositional approach to create a series of 4-6 color abstractions. I personally was interested in watercolor painting, and this project was the best experimental opportunities to be more familiar on watercolor paintings than before. Before I came up with these four abstract watercolor paintings, I chose a theme of this project: constellation in universe. By doing graded wash with salt, which is similar with flat wash but the mixture is gradually diluted as wash is dispersed, all of four paintings have created the atmosphere of universe. And, small dots of various colors were distributed partially to illustrate constellation in universe. These paintings are composed with different color palette, but still have common features of brush techniques. In other interpretation of these series of four paintings, it might have illustrated the inner ocean view where shows not only the complex oceanic environment and stream of water but also pollution by oil. The advantages of watercolor are its transparency and natural expressions of colors including black and white. Also, there is no need to draw because paper is where water with color plays on its own, and brush is just a tool to lead and rule the aimless water.
