Urban@Parsons is a unique, design-based graduate learning environment deeply engaged with the city, placing questions of social, spatial, and environmental justice at its core. We actively address the ongoing and ever-changing challenges of urban life\u2014while emphasizing the vital role that citizens and residents play in making cities more resilient and sustainable through collective action.<\/p>\n

Bridging public policy, urban planning, community advocacy and other disciplines, we advance critical practices and research approaches that seek to fundamentally redefine cities and urbanization.<\/p>\n

In this critical moment where global forces reshape every aspect of urban life\u2014from food, education, and housing to jobs, mobility, and infrastructure\u2014 we believe there is an unprecedented urgency to engage through design and research in developing and implementing radically new approaches that can transform the socially, economically, and environmentally unsustainable forms of urbanization that have dominated policy and politics for decades.<\/p><\/p>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

<\/p>Our students, faculty, and researchers work closely with local grassroots initiatives, community-based groups, not-for-profit organizations and city agencies across New York City, particularly in areas facing rapid changes and therefore challenges related to waterfront development, housing affordability, gentrification and displacement, migration and resettlement, food sovereignty, school overcrowding, and new transit-oriented development, just to mention a few. <\/p>\n

Students have opportunities to be involved in a range of projects, nationally and internationally. Through our Global Intensive Studio, students and faculty have traveled and engaged in projects with universities, civil society partners, and community organizations across the world, including Hong Kong, Macau, Shenzhen, New Delhi, Rio de Janeiro, Venice, and Medellin.<\/p><\/p>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
