Jackson Chabot is the Director of Advocacy and Organizing at Open Plans, where he leads campaigns to transform how people experience New York City’s streets. Since joining the organization in 2020, he has spearheaded advocacy efforts for the creation of an Office of Public Space Management (OPSM), building coalitions, engaging elected officials, and shaping public discourse around equitable access to public space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jackson’s work bridges grassroots organizing, policy reform, and public storytelling. His advocacy contributed to the inclusion of OPSM in Maya Wiley’s Community First Climate Action Plan and has supported broader efforts to advance a people first street culture centered on safety, mobility, and joy.

Before Open Plans, Jackson earned a Master’s in Urban Placemaking and Management from Pratt Institute and worked at Project for Public Spaces. He currently serves as Treasurer of the New York Metro Chapter of the American Planning Association. His work sits at the intersection of public space, mobility, and community empowerment.

This lecture is part of the MS Design and Urban Ecologies’ Urban Collouium II Spring 2026: State of Public Realms coordinated and instructed by Prof. Miodrag Mitrasinovic, Professor of Architecture and Urbanism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
