Yī Fù

Wendi Wang

In Chinese, Yī Fú (衣服) means clothes. Coincidently, in the same pronunciation, Yī Fù (依附), means attachment. These two concepts sound extremely alike, however, they are different. From one Yī Fú to Yī Fù, the physical action of wearing clothes might lead to an internal transformation and having a special relationship with the item itself. Yī Fú to Yī Fù, this process adds value to our clothing by creating collective memories. However, in our current society, we are constantly influenced by peer pressure, bloggers, and social media, so much that our closet is flooded with outside opinions. The internal values that clothes can bring to us are fading away.

Yī fù is a virtual immersive storytelling space that leads to a story behind a pink jacket. It critiques current society for embracing fast fashion culture and the vicious cycle of consumer shopping behavior.

If clothes could talk, what would they say?
