Encrypted Dialogue is a performance-based film that narrates how the human body can be turned into an instrument for the Electromagnetic fields via a wearable device. The project deciphers the electromagnetic activity in Manhattan that hides away from human perception, with a wearable device that functions as a “translator” that allows humans to feel the EMF-based dialogue within the city. The wearable device functions as an external sensor picking up electromagnetic signals around the wearer, and processing the signals into data inputs for a musical expression and a motor fan that reflects the strength of the field. This project challenges our anthropocentric perceptions of who the player and the instrument are. It aims to provoke the audience’s curiosity about one of the hidden non-human powers and remind them of the reverence we should perhaps develop for them.
