This project is a playful installation which allows the user to role-play as a sanitary pad. The immersive experience questions the broadly believed mythologies about menstruation, and casts a light on all that pain that women suffer from misconceptions about their period.
My project addresses this issue through an absurd but funny experience. The players get shocked, and at the same time understand more truths about menstruation. These truths include both financial burdens that women take, and social pressure caused by mythologies, which every woman would take along for the entire life.
To make an immersive experience, the installation consists of the tank, the shelf, the chair, the giant pads that the players can wear over their faces, the giant pantie, and the projection. I set up a giant white pantie as the stage. A chair is placed over the stage, for our padmen to sit. Above the chair is a tank full of red beans, which represents the menstruate blood, with a switch in my hand to control when the beans should fall. A projector is here to provide scenes when women meet mythologies on their period.
