Walk through SoHo, and you’ll encounter a slew of stores and studios that house the work of Parsons alumni, ranging from Alexander Wang to Tom Ford to Proenza Schouler. This is just a tiny fraction of our alumni representation in NYC, and the bigger challenge may be, try walking a block in SoHo and not finding a space representing a Parsons graduate’s work.
From cutting-edge fashion to innovative branding agencies to sustainable interiors, Parsons alumni are everywhere and doing everything. This is an amazing community to be a part of, but it also means it can be hard to keep track of all the incredible work happening across our alumni family. To help support the many alumni-owned businesses from the Parsons community, the Alumni Engagement team has started the MadeNEW Market, an online platform where alums can add their businesses. Carve out some time and begin perusing the nearly 200 alumni businesses that are already participating in this initiative. The MadeNEW Market is accessible to the entire Parsons community, with all alumni able to post their business and all students, faculty, and staff can search the platform to find Parsons-made goods and services in pretty much every area imaginable.
Also exciting is the introduction of the Alumni Holiday Market, a special, curated holiday collection at The New Store that features 31 different alumni brands and over 120 gifting designs and ideas, all of which are ethically made. Just a few of our personal favorites include:
Amina Suleimanagich, BBA Strategic Design and Management ’16 and her corduroy bucket hats
Gingie McLeod, BFA Fashion Design ’06 and their futuristic (truly, out of this world) visors
Chardae Adams, MFA Interior Design ’12 and her silk headwraps
If you’re a Parsons alumni and you’d like to know how your work can be part of a future collection at The New Store, please first list your business in MadeNEW Market and then email email@example.com to share details about your product line and why you think it would be a good fit for The New Store. Members from The New Store and Alumni Engagement teams will be in touch with you when the selection process is underway.
While we may not be able to hit the pavement to window shop for our loved ones this holiday season, grab your computer and visit The New Store to help support alumni businesses, and ensure your loved ones are looking extra cool.
