Signature: Actions Have Consequences

Akshansh Chaudhary

Signature is an immersive virtual reality experience that raises awareness on the impact of sharing personal data. Since people prioritize convenience over identity, this project offers an opportunity for critical evaluation of the choices made by humans.

The early research phase of this project indicated that there is an absence of significant careful consideration during technological adoption. The imprudent acceptance of “free” things germinates vulnerabilities in the use of personal information. For instance, the use of any service requires the acceptance of Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy, which are always accepted but never read.

Therefore, Signature is focused on the younger generation, who should be thoughtful users and influencers against surveillance capitalism.

VR EXPERIENCE

The VR environment in this project dramatizes the consequences of sharing data online – users make decisions about sharing personal data, and based on that, the environment augments itself to give feedback to the users on the choices they made. The experience intends to make users understand that their actions have consequences. The glittery paradise of the technology companies presented inside VR establishes a correlation with the real-world and initiates a conversation on the inappropriate forms of behavioral modification. With the right nudge, the users and viewers of this project will be prudent about their use of technology now and in the future.
