A Book Sprint?
A Book Sprint brings together a group of people in order to produce a book in 3-5 days. There may be no pre-production and the group goes from zero to published book throughout the workshop. The book should have high quality content and be made available immediately at the end of the sprint via print-on-demand services and e-book formats (more details about the format at booksprints.net). The intense collaborative aspect of the work makes it different from traditional academic writing, as well as the open format for dissemination (often on-line and open access).
What?
The workshop will result in a book that will be an initial contribution of the Fashion Praxis research lab at Parsons The New School for Design. It will be a collection of essays, cases, interviews, projects, tools and methods to address the issues and interfaces concerning Fashion & Politics. The book will be a print-on-demand publication and act as a starting point for the upcoming Fashion & Politics conference at The New School in April 2014 . The book will be a “twin” to the special issue of Journal of Design Strategies on Alternative Fashion Systems, and both will be released together in fall 2013.
When?
The sprint will take place Friday May 31st – Tuesday June 4th at The New School.
Participants will have some months before the workshop to prepare interviews, do research, make questions, collect cases and ideas etc in collaboration with the research assistants/students. But most of the work will be made at the sprint itself.
