Fall 2021 Message from The New School Libraries

The University Center, List and Performing Arts Libraries are places to come together and produce research and creativity. While we’ve welcomed patrons virtually and at library pick ups since our physical spaces closed, the Libraries staff look forward to welcoming The New School community back through our doors this Fall.

Libraries spaces and locations
The Libraries’ spaces will reopen on August 23 following all University health guidelines. For the first week, we will be open slightly shorter hours, and plan to ramp up to full hours by the fourth week of the semester. Detailed hours by location for the semester are posted on the Hours & Locations page of the library website.

When our spaces open, we will offer the following services:

  • bookable rooms,
  • physical reserves (faculty, please see the Fall 2021 Reserves Letter),
  • desktop computers,
  • laptops for checkout,
  • printing* & scanning.
*Printing services are also provided around campus by IT.

Access to NYU spaces
There will not be physical access to NYU and consortium libraries at the start of the Fall semester; access policies may expand later in the semester. New School patrons still have access to NYU’s print collections through E-ZBorrow (learn more). Articles and book chapters may be requested via Inter-Library Loan (ILL). Queries for complete eBooks should be submitted via Request a Purchase. For access to a specific database and all questions of any kind, please Ask Us!

Alumni and outside visitors
At the start of the semester, alumni and outside visitors will not have access to physical spaces. Alumni and external scholars may contact a New School Librarian via libhelp@newschool.edu or chat and Ask Us questions. Click here for more information.

Research Services
Subject Librarians will be available for online research assistance and library instruction. In-person services can be accommodated with advance notice. Chat or email us anytime via Ask UsChat hours are posted on our website.
