Gregory Sholette is a professor in the Department of Art at Queens College whose work examines collective cultural practices through the lens of political activism, counter-historical representation, social justice pedagogy, and the political economy of artistic labor under advanced capitalism.
He co-directs SPUNY (Social Practice City University of New York), a Mellon Foundation funded educational network that strengthens-connections among socially engaged artists, scholars, and advocates across CUNY. Sholette is also a co-founder of activist art collectives including PAD/D, REPOhistory, and Gulf Labor Coalition.
His writing on socially engaged art and cultural labor includes Dark Matter: Art and Politics in the Age of Enterprise Culture (2011), Delirium and Resistance (2017), and The Art of Activism and the Activism of Art (2022), among other publications.
