Who We Are

CareLab is an interdisciplinary initiative at The New School that brings together students, faculty, and partners to reimagine care and create more just, equitable, and caring futures.

What We Do

Care in the Anthropocene

Carelab is focused on the transformation of mindsets and narratives,  social and civic infrastructures, and organizational practices and economic models to enable the equitable distribution of care in society and to overcome the belief that we are separate from each other and nature.

Why we do it

The Need for an Intervention

Evolving social norms, demographic changes, political and racial unrest, and health and climate disasters require reimagining how we care for each other within communities and organizations.

Our approach

Reimagining Care with Creativity

Carelab creatively and critically explores approaches that promote collective wellness, mutualism, and inclusion within varied 21st century contexts. Through courses, workshops, projects, and community and organizational partnerships, CareLab explores care through the intersecting lenses of strategic design, community-engaged design, and social practice art.
