Community Practice

Faculty, students and alumni across The New School engage in collaborations with each other and diverse external partners (public agencies, companies, nonprofit organizations, community groups, artists and culture makers, designers, and more).

This section explores approaches used by social innovators, designers, artists, civil society organizations, community groups, and others who are creatively intervening to change mindsets, practices and policies to transform the way we care for people and the planet.

“Care is a specific activity that includes everything that we do to maintain, continue, and repair our 'world' so that we can live in it as well as possible. That world includes our bodies, our selves, and our environment.”
Joan C. Tronto and Berenice Fisher, “Toward a Feminist Theory of Caring,” in Circles of Care (Albany, NY: SUNY Press, 1990)
