HOUSING JUSTICE LAB JOINS NEW YORK HOUSING CONFERENCE’S EFFORTS TO KEEP AFFORDABLE HOUSING BUDGET

With over half million of unemployed New Yorkers and thousands of tenants struggling to pay rent across the city, Mayor de Blasio proposed cutting by 40 percent the capital budget of the Department of Housing Preservation and Development: $581 million from the current fiscal year and another $457 million next year. In a context where affordable housing is more important than ever, these cuts will make difficult the production of homes for low- and middle-income New Yorkers.

The Housing Justice Lab joined the efforts organized by the New York Housing Conference by signing a letter to Mayor de Blasio which calls to reverse the cuts and prioritize affordable housing. For more information about the letter, click here. The letter was signed by 163 organizations and 14 Elected Officials.
