(Untitled) Portrait of Ernest Marquez Miller
Class of: 2029
Major: Architectural Design BFA
Medium: Multiple media (dirt on glass)
Faculty: Diana Shpungin
Prompt: We were randomly assigned a medium and a theme, mine being dirt and crime. The goal was to make a piece of art connecting the medium and theme with no visible traditional art supplies.
(Untitled) Portrait of Ernest Marquez Miller, a nod towards Felix Gonzalez-Torres, is a memorial to victims who only are remembered by the public through the gruesome murders and not their life. Dirt, often considered unclean, here memorializes the beauty of lives cut short, viewing dirt not as a material to be washed away, but a delicate medium that nurtures the growth of beautiful flowers.
