Prompt: Create a personal interpretation of "fake."

I constructed a corset to both create the idea of a fake body as well as play into the fake aspects of eating disorder culture and the misogynistic ideals that are expected of women’s body images. I selected colors reminiscent of muscle and blood and created a three dimensional rib structure to overlay out of a gold metallic satin as a commentary on the idea that society prizes the concept of skinniness. Further, the extruding ribs serve to act as a social “cage” in which culturally women are trapped by the rigid bodily expectations imposed upon them. The choker is a more direct reference, depicting the stifling nature of the societal demands that women are faced with in terms of contending with harmful image rhetoric.
