Selves
Prompt: This project is called the Self, or the Selves. Through the different 2D, 3D and time-based media, we should explore how we express ourselves, what shape us to be us, how do ourselves evolve over time, etc.
I develop my project based on the thought of self-conflict. I feel that there are multiple sides of human, and sometimes there might be conflict between the inner selves. We might be experiencing dissatisfactory or even hate for some aspects of our personalities, while we are united together as a whole, which makes it complex to explain and express. I used watercolor and marker pens to create an illustration. I used the composition inspired by the statue of Perseus and the head of Medusa, which is more powerful than seeing straight-forward to each other. Flowers are covering all over the painting in a relatively unrealistic way, which is inspired by some abstract pieces I have seen. I want to make the painting more impressive in its overall visual effects rather than focusing on describing the details, so my theme could be better shown.
