The Shape of A Memory Just Before It Fades

Class of: 2030

Major: Integrated Design BFA

Medium: A combination of multiple media

Faculty: Noah Fischer

Prompt: AI Prompt Project For this assignment, each student was assigned a prompt that AI could generate. Comparing how your final product came out and what AI came up with, students would take away their own attitudes towards AI and the nuances involved in the art process.

Upon receiving my assigned prompt, my idea for the project came to me easily: photos. Specifically, Polaroids were my focus in this piece. The concept behind it was to portray photographs floating in a dark abyss, tearing apart as they dissolve into the darkness. The traditional look of a Polaroid, with its white border, contrasted with the dark canvas, was purposeful in drawing attention. For the photos depicted, I chose different childhood photos and printed them out to stick them on the canvas to make the piece not only more personal, but also to hopefully evoke viewers with nostalgia for their own pasts. With a final touch of silver paint over the photos to depict natural deterioration, my final piece came together. I hope this piece serves as a reminder that, though memories fade over time and get lost to the abyss of the past, the experiences we lived through exist in every step you take on your path in life.
